Wall Art can look extra stunning in any traditional family room in any part of the world. All of our fine Wall Art is influenced by traditional Head-Wraps which originate from Africa but are also popular in many cultures. Gele is a Yoruba word for a woman’s head-wrap and stems from South-western and North Central Nigeria (i.e. Yoruba tribe).
Gele can be rather large and flamboyant and is worn for various occasions ranging from simple day-to-day activities to more elaborate ceremonies. The elaborate headpiece covers a woman's entire hair as well as her ears leaving only her face and lower part of her earlobes to be exposed. It is typically accompanied by traditional African attire that may or may not have the same pattern as the head tie itself.
We felt that Gele is much more than a piece of cloth tied around the head, it is bold, it is empowering, it is a statement; a piece of elegant art that OT&O are proud to introduce into the brand new collection. OT&O’s wall art is creativity at its best.
